Kevin & Kathy Bruce
Kevin and Kathy Bruce work among the Awa people of the Andes Mountains in Ecuador, South America. Since there is no existing church among the Awa, their work involves building relationships and evangelism, with the goal of church planting. At the moment they hold Sunday meetings with a core group of believers (and some ‘listeners!’) in the Awa community of Rio Verde, and hope to soon build a meeting place in the community of Palmira.
The Awa people live scattered in the mountains, farming bananas, corn, yucca root, and papayas, and raising chickens, ducks, and pigs. They are loosely organized in communities, with each community center hosting a school for the children. In the last few years the advent of electricity and roads has brought modern civilization creeping ever closer, which can be rather perplexing, especially to the many adults that can’t read.
Some specific prayer requests include:
- The group of believers meeting each week—so much of the Christian faith is new to them! That God would open their hearts to understand His word, and to follow in obedience.
- The building of the meeting house in Palmira…we have received an offering to help with construction and now are waiting for the county to gravel the short access road to the church property in order to be able to get the needed materials delivered to the site.
- For hearts to be prepared in Palmira to understand the Gospel. There are many in this community that are interested and anxious to listen; we pray that God will raise up for Himself a church among the 50+ families that call this community home.
- For encouragement for our hearts in a work that moves slowly! That God would give us perseverance and patience as we disciple the believers and seek to reach out in evangelism.
